On Friday this week 2P are visiting Junior School, in class we have been preparing several items to give to our new class teacher. We have written a letter, a poem, we have drawn a self portrait and a portrait of the teacher we think we may have. In addition to these items we will also be taking the poster "Going to Junior School". You will find this A3 paper in your child's homework book. They will fill it in and bring it back for our tour on Friday. Do not stik the paper in to their home work book, we will be taking it with us to junior School.
This week's homework is to write a riddle with 5 clues. Each clue needs to have alliteration. Alliteration is when there are two words that share the same beginning sound such as shiny shoes or silly sausage.
You can choose anything you like to write about, such as animals, friends, books, movies, games. Have fun! This week students are invited to write (your own) or copy (a favourite) a poem. The poem can be about space or shadows. If you want to go above and beyond the expectations of the task then feel free to share more than one poem. Here is one to get you going... Solar System Twinkle, twinkle, little star, Oh so bright and oh so far. In the sky, a tiny dot. Glowing gas that's very hot! Twinkle, twinkle, little star, Oh so bright and oh so far. Beaming, beaming, gleaming moon, Like a giant white balloon, Round and round the Earth you spin, Through the month, new shapes you're in. Beaming, beaming, gleaming moon, Like a giant white balloon. Glowing, glowing, red-hot sun. Shining light on everyone. Earth goes round you once a year. You're a star with atmosphere! Glowing, glowing, red-hot sun, Shining light on everyone. This week in homework you will draw a real spacesuit, label it and add captions about the special parts of the suit. Below are some images to get you started. Or you can google "space suits" images. Useful websites include: http://www.howstuffworks.com/search.php?terms=space+suits http://www.nasa.gov This week the students planned the topic for homework. They wanted to research and learn about the planets in our solar system.
Students in your homework book write a title "Planets". It is up to you what you want to find out about the planets. Record your findings in the homework book. Here are a few questions to get you started; 1. How many planets are there? 2. What is a solar system? 3. What is a dwarf planet? 4. Which planet is closest to the sun? 5. Which planet is furthest from the sun? 6. Are there any two planets the same distance from the sun? 7. Is there another planet like Earth? Here are some websites to get you started; http://www.kidsastronomy.com/solar_system.htm http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/planets.html http://www.planetsforkids.org/ The next unit in Literacy is writing extended stories. These next few weeks we will be exploring Roald Dahl's extended story "George's Marvellous Medicine".
This week's homework is to visit the Roald Dahl's website and explore it thoroughly. This is a chance to get to know Roald Dahl the author, there is an interview with Roald Dahl and if you join up, which is free, you can play online games and have access to more parts of his website. http://roalddahl.com Enjoy! Title: Non Fiction Books
How do you know it is a non fiction book rather than a fiction book? Write at least 8 features of non fiction texts. Homework this week involves researching an animal. The questions have been inserted in the red homework book. We will be using the research you find to create your own nonfiction book "All About [animal]...." just like when you researched about explorers and we used the information to make posters.
Sorry about the delay in getting this out to you.
This week's homework is to write an alternative ending for the story "Room on a Broom" In the original the witch picks up a frog, cat, bird and dog and flies through the skies on a broom. The broom stick snaps in two and the animals fall off. While the witch is falling through the clouds a dragon tries to eat the witch "I am a dragon as mean as can be, and I'm planning to have witch and chips for my tea!". The animals all come together and scare the dragon away. Then they make a spell to rebuild the broken broom. Students need to rewrite the end of the story....what happens after the dragon says "I am a dragon as mean as can be, and I'm planning to have witch and chips for my tea!" ? Next week is book week. For homework you will draw a picture of the character you will dress up as next week. Around the picture you will use adjectives to describe your character. Underneath the picture you will write sentences about why you chose this character.
