We worked out 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 of shapes, they have to be regular to do this. We found out that 2/4 = 1/2.
We used different methods such as sharing and drawing grids to work out fractions of numbers. Some people have good knowledge of their division facts so were able to work out fractions very quickly.

We are having the Block E2 test tomorrow so have a look back over this unit's work :)

We have noticed that lots of us find it difficult to bridge 3 digit numbers. Use a number line to help you understand what goes either side of the big number- see the photo.

Practise adding and taking away 10 e.g. 283+10, 603-10.

You can also practice counting. We will do more on this over the week and after the holiday.

This week we are focusing on division methods. You can do repeated subtraction, as in this photo or sharing. We used number lines and practical equipment to help us.

Some people have very good knowledge of their multiplication and division facts which helps them calculate quickly. You should at least know your facts for 2,5,10 times table and corresponding division.

We will also be doing division with remainders using these same methods.

Practise your division using the game below

Division with remainders
We applied the same sharing methods to numbers that don't divide equally. We also used number lines to found up or down in jumps then saw what was left- the remainder. See photo.

A couple of tricks we discovered were that when you times by 10 you add a zero to the answer e.g 7x10= 70 so as division is the opposite, when you divide by 10 you knock off a zero e.g 70 divided by 10 = 7.

We learned that 1/4 turn= 90 degrees, 1/2 turn is 180 and 3/4 turn is 270. We programmed the roamer with instructions to turn clockwise or anti clockwise. We set challenges like making it go to someone, turn then come back. We had to estimate how many lengths to tell the Roamer to travel.

We looked at turning a shape 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 clockwise or antilock wise turns.

We are learning the time. You should know quarter past, quarter to and half past. How can you write them as digital e.g half past 7= 7:30.
Play these games to help you and also use your knowledge to solve time problems. Practise telling the time at home as much as you some of you are finding this difficult.
