In our first week together we have been revisiting our understand of place value. We have explored numbers with units, tens and also hundreds. Creating 3-digit number with arrow cards we have spent time to write out all the parts to a number and also written the number in words:
e.g. 256
200 + 50 + 6
two hundred and fifty six.

200 + 50 + 6
two hundred and fifty six.
Building on our understanding of 3-digit numbers we also started to rehearse ordering them from smallest to
We have also started looking different ways to sort 2-digit numbers into groups by counting them in pairs, fives and tens. Working in groups we noted down how many groups of pairs made this number. How many groups of five made this number and also how many groups of ten. Doing this physically with pots of coloured sticks helped us to visualise this grouping activity and begin to formulate mathematical vocabulary relating to multiplication.

Also, on Friday we started our first mental maths challenge in the form of Big Maths Beat That. Everyone took the 30 second challenge to answer as many simple addition facts as they could. Next week we will see who manages to beat the personal score!
