For homework the children have been asked to find how much change should be given from one pound. An example is below. The car costs 10p so if a person paid 1 pound for it they would need 90p change.

When there are prices that do not involve 0 units we solve the problem as follows.

Example:
65p+___=100p (1 pound)
65p + 5p=70p (next ten)
70p + 30p = 100p (one pound)
30p + 5p= 35p change
