Winter Poetry

On Monday night the elves decorated our classroom, it looks glorious! We finished decorating the tree ourselves.

We wrote winter alliterative acrostic poems- some of them are on display outside the canteen, the rest are on the wall in the classroom.

Poems don't have to have long sentences, short ones can be very interesting and effective. We wrote Christmas Star shape poems reminding ourselves about how we should treat people at Christmas time. They are on our beautiful 'Shanghai at Christmas' display in the classroom.

We will be continuing Christmas poetry next week. Bring in your favorite christmas poem or song.

We observed how materials changed when we heated them. We observed what happened when we cooled things. Look at these photos of our investigations and write a comment about something you found out.

We were very excited to perform our Christmas Show "Hey Ewe!" on Wednesday and Thursday. We had worked very hard and tried our very best- we hope you enjoyed the show! The DVD will be out soon :)

We read a explanation text and a flow chart about lighting a light bulb. We compared them and chose which form we liked better. We watched a video on making glass and decided it would make a good explanation flow chart. Some of us worked very hard on our flow charts. Today we read about how plants grow and made sentences using conjunctions.

We went on a learning walk around school to find different materials and sort whether they were man made or natural. Things made out of natural materials such as wood need to be changed before we can use them. Today we found out how we can change materials with our hands. Some of the ways were twist, bend, squash and stretch. If you bend something too far it will break. Somethings stretch and can then go back to the normal shape like a rubber band. Somethings do not go back like plastercine. Somethings cannot be changed by hand like rock.

Poppies!

Year 2 were invited to join the whole school Remembrance Assembly on Wednesday. Cate and Jabez were very brave by forming part of a group carrying flags representing all 42 nations at our school to open the assembly. We listened to readings, poems and songs. Eliza, and Alicia from 2H, performed a poem called The Most Important Rap. They were exceptional and we were very proud of them. We all stood still for a 2 minute silence to think about War. Over the next week we will be continuing to reflect on conflict resolution as it affects us.

Make sure you look at the home page to read more about the charity we collected for and to complete the surgery.

As part of our writing development we are now writing these posts as a class.

We have been practicing our dance and singing for "Hey Ewe!" our Christmas show. Keep practicing your dance and words at home- we need to remember our places.

In Literacy we have been writing pattern poems about Witch and Wizard's pockets using our descriptive adjectives. Our class poem in attached below- can you think write any more lines?

We were learning about Guy Fawkes. He tried to kill King James because he broke his promise to look after the people. Guy plotted to blow up the House of Parliament with gunpowder when the King was opening the House after the summer holiday.

What happened to him?

Click on the firework photo to find out more.

We made Firework pictures by coloring a star with oil pastels then painted it black. When it was dry we scratched a pattern into it. Where shall we put them?

Be careful if you go to watch fireworks because they are dangerous!
