The children have started getting ready for the new year by finding out about the different aspects of the celebration.
We have just finished a two week unit of work based on Mini-beasts. The children have written their own mini-beast poems and focused on having short descriptive sentences and words repeating like a chorus. They will soon be on display in our classroom. We are making 3D mini-beasts which are still under construction, below are some of the photos showing how much fun they all had with papier mach!
The children worked hard in Geography to locate China in an Atlas and fill in a blank map with some of the different wildlife habitats that can be found, i.e. rivers, mountains, desert. They even managed to come up with their own symbols and create a key to make their maps easy to read! Well done Rhino Class :)
We have finished our unit of work using stories with familiar settings. The children planned and wrote their own versions of the story changing the characters, and proved what fantastic story writers they are! There was some really imaginative writing and I was impressed with the number of children using interesting punctuation, describing words, and connectives. Some of the stories the children have done will be going up on the 'Wow Work Wall' in the classroom! Thank you for finding at our class blog, here you will find all kinds of things about life in Rhino Class! You can see what we have been learning about, find links to learn more online, look at photos and work from our week. The children have been fantastic and made such a strong start to Year 2. myself, Mrs Lin and all the children hope you follow our learning journey here often! In out Science lessons they have been finding out about the different food groups and why some foods are healthier than others. This is linked to their P.E. lessons and the children are developing their understanding of how to keep themselves healthy. Below are a couple of links to websites and games that they may like to play on:

This week the class have read the story A Quiet Night In by Jill Murphy and had fun acting it out. The children made their own story boards remembering what happened in the correct order. They thought up some great describing words to help them write about the characters in the story! Why not pick a character in a book at home and try to write a description? We will be looking at more Jill Murphy stories next week so the children can see what Mr and Mrs Large and their children got up to next, and we will even write our own stories, I will be choosing some to go up on the Wow Work Wall in our classroom!
