This week we have had the chance to experiment. Our challenge was to make a paper cone go up into the air vertically without out using our hands to touch it. I was amazed by the different ideas the children had and the different ways they wanted to solve the problem.
We have had a very busy week this week! We have had the chance to listen to lots of parents reading us stories, we have visited Toddlers, Gorillas and have even been visited by the Year 5 children - possibly one of the highlights of the week! Below are some of the photos from our week!!! Parents reading... Chinese Shadow Puppet Theatre Year 5 visit Toddler visits! Book Parade! This week our P and O was We work and play together. I was pleased to see all the Giraffes doing a great job working and playing together during our trip to the Maritime Museum, as well as they do during the normal school day. Well done to Atharva and Chelsea for receiving their certificates this week. This Wednesday was an exciting day with our trip to the Maritime Museum. The children had a great day, and I was impressed by how well they behaved. They listened carefully to instructions they were given and stayed close together, so no one got lost! The children loved being able to go onto a replica of Zheng He's boat and have a look around, and were amazed by some of the different artifacts on display. This is definitely an interesting and exciting museum to look around with many different displays which can be touched, and it allowed the chance to see history and the modern day within one place. This week be have begun a new unit, looking at a selection of the stories written by Oliver Jeffers. We have read the stories 'Lost and Found', 'Stuck', 'The Great Paper Caper' and 'The Way Back Home'.
The children had the chance to compare these stories with each other and we also had an opportunity to watch a short animation of 'Lost and Found', after this we were able to compare and contrast how a film and a book can be different. The children have really enjoying having a chance to read these books. This week we began to look at the adventures of Ernest Shackleton. The children were amazed to discover that Shackleton's four trips to Antarctica ended in apparent failure, however, he remained a great man in how he thought about the men he had working for him and how he took care of them.
We watched a short clip with real footage taken on Shackleton's third trip to the Antarctic in which his ship, Endurance, was caught in the ice and eventually sank. If your child was particularly interested in this voyage, they may want to watch the series of documentaries made about this trip. There are 11 in total, and they can be found at www.youtube.com. Below is a link to the first of the 11 clips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_0vKvVtGbo Dear Parents,
Several children seem to be loosing different items of clothing - mainly PE and daily uniform jumpers. Please can you ensure all of your child's items of clothing are labelled and have a quick check that you have the correct items in your home, many thanks from us all! As we have almost finished making our minbeast, the Giraffes were very kind to offer the remains of our papier mache balloons to Potoos (Nursery) class, who are busy making an aquarium. In return they have invited us to come and visit, once they have used the shells to make some more sea life.
Well done Giraffes for Sharing and Caring about your friends in the school. |
Welcome to the Giraffe Class
