Measuring with metre rulers.
We used a metre ruler to find out if objects were 'longer than a metre, a metre or shorter than a metre'.
Remember to place the start of the ruler and the start of the object!

Edward had 1 sweet and Mrs Lowes had 5 sweets. 'How many more sweets do I have?'
We both ate one but I still had 4 left! Yippee!

More Special Visitors
Mrs Lowes' Mummy and Daddy popped in from England to say hello and play 'Elevens'!
Recognising numbers to 100.
'Hunt the number'
We had to guess a secret number by asking questions and then crossing them off our 100 square.
Is there a 6 in the number? If not, cross out all the '6 unit' numbers like 16,26,36 and also the '6 tens' numbers such as 61,62,63.

Data Handling
'Which drink does the class like the best?'
We asked this question and decided that we would need to collect some information.

'Which colour does the class like best?'
'more than'
We have been learning 'maths language' again! Although we know how numbers sit on a number line, putting that information into a maths sentence is so much more difficult! We practised completing the missing numbers in the sentence '.....is 1 more than....'.
Data Handling and Measures
Today we discovered the maths way of grouping objects! We weren't 'boys and girls', we were 'boys' and 'NOT boys'!
Mrs Lowes played a tricky game where we had to guess what the group was. Some of the groups were 'blue socks, NOT blue socks', 'PE Kit, NOT PE kit' and 'magic velcro, NOT magic velcro'. Sofia even tried to trick the class with 'earrings, NOT earrings' but as we now understand how to 'speak maths', nobody could catch us out!
