This week in Maths we have been exploring different shapes including 2D and 3D shapes. We have had interesting conversations about the properties of shapes and trying to get our tongues around some of the funny names like hexagonal prism.

We even tried drawing a robot using 2D shapes such as circles, squares and rectangles. Then we really challenged ourselves by drawing a robot using a cylinder for the head and body.

At home you may want to play a game we that we like to play called "Guess my shape". One person thinks of a shape and describes it, for example "I am thinking of a shape that has 5 sides". Then the partner guesses the shape "is it a pentagon?".

We have also been building 3D shapes look at the photos below to see some of our creations.

Homework for Maths

9/9/2012

Dear Parents,

Like all other homework from your class teacher, maths homework will be sent home on Mondays and is expected to come back to school completed on Fridays. If your child finishes the homework earlier in the week, your child can bring it to my room for marking or hand it in to their class teacher who will help it get to the right place. Homework will be given in a plastic sleeve. Please make sure your child returns the homework in the same plastic sleeve.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs Limpisvasti
