In our last week before the mid term holiday Puma class worked hard to complete their information booklets about their chosen animal. They used their recently gained knowledge as well as notes they have been making to write factual sentences complete with headings, labelled diagrams, a front cover, contents page and even a blurb. Some amazing booklets - well done Pumas!

Puma class came to visit our buddy class in Nursery - The Patoos. It was great to see Puma class demonstrating such maturity and kindness to the nursery children as they were being shown around the different learning areas of Patoos classroom. A great experience for all.
This week Puma class started our work on Information Texts. Many students were able to bring much information to our first lesson where we explored some books and discussed how they were different from story books. We already knew most of the vocabulary for features of Information Texts! We worked on labelling diagrams and learned how to make notes. Later in the week we went around to other classrooms in Year 2 to learn about a different animal and wrote down important notes for us to use next week.
This week Puma class looked at the story 5 Minutes Peace. We discussed the different view points of characters in the story and then started to plan and write our own story with the same setting and story idea. In topic we looked at animals and their young as well as learning a song to demonstrate everything animals need to live. We hope you enjoy the video. Our current Literacy unit of work is Stories with Familiar Settings. This week we have been looking at the story A Quiet Night In. We discussed adjectives for the characters and then tried a little bit of drama in a hot seating activity. We also completed a story board for the story.
In our topic work this week we have been looking at healthy eating and the different food groups. Puma class already knew lots of information about types of food and what our bodies need to grow and stay healthy. Well done Pumas! We drew our own healthy dinner plate and matched the food to its correct food group. The story "Ellie's Medicine" helped us to understand more about what medicine does and how it is made for people.
Here is a great website with extra activities about healthy eating: http://school.asda.com/kids.aspx |
