Shackleton

This week we learned about Shackleton and researched Polar animals. Today we watched a great film about his adventure.

We finished our books on Australia which we have sent home for you to share and used marking ladders to make sure we covered all the criteria. Hope you like them, they were a lot of effort.

As we worked so hard we had a little trip up to the IB art exhibition in the big school as a treat. It was amazing to see all the different types of art and we picked up a few tips and ideas for our own work. Miss Yu helped us play a short game of human chess before we came back to DUCKS.

Ella read her Passover books and we talked about Easter.

We are very sad to say bye to Miss Yu but know we will see her around as she is now teaching Mandarin- all the flowers and cards you sent in for her were lovely.

Have a great holiday and see you in a week :)

This week we have used our knowledge of Information texts and researching skills to make our own book on Australian Animals complete with contents pages and glossaries. We found the Index pages tricky so will do a bit more on those.

We learned about the aboriginal dreamtime stories and had a go at using their traditional symbols and methods to paint. These are up in the classroom.

We also read about Captain Cook's expeditions and found out what it was like on his ship- would you like to have been there?

We had a wonderful week reading so many inspiring books and listening to guest readers such as teachers and students from the big school. We enjoyed reading our favorite books to Reception and performing extracts to our class mates.Every child had thought very hard about their costume for the parade.

Everyone has been very impressed by the quality of research and the excellent group work used to produce the fantastic Christopher Columbus posters. These are hanging in the classroom for you to see.

Well done to the children who brought in money from the Readathon- if you have any to hand in, please bring it on Monday. The collection will go to help the heart to heart children.
